The Warren County Skate Park Committee ( WCSPC) is made up of parents, law enforcement officers, youth and adult skate sports enthusiasts, Front Royal town council member, and the Warren County Parks & Recreation Director and other staff members. The WCSPC is planning to construct and donate a state of the art skateboard park to Warren County for public use. The Mission:
Our mission is to involve area youth, by together building a skate park where kids can practice their sport, and in the process become active participants in our community.
Our goal includes involving the area youth at a level that will instill a sense of work ethic and community and help them realize they can achieve their dreams.
The Site:
Ed Stump Playground (Next to the future Soccerplex) About the Park:
The park will be approximately 15,000 square feet, consisting of in-ground concrete bowls, and flat surface with street features.
Costs of the Project:
The estimated cost of the total project is for the 15,000 square feet is $335,501.00. This is only a rough estimate. When our final drawings are in, we will be able to more accurately cost the project out.
Funding:
WCSPC has received a $25,000 grant from the Warren County Rotary. Private donations have been pledged, and other grants will be pursued. It has been proposed that Warren County will match fundraising efforts up to $75,000. Most of the funds, though, will come from private donors just like you. Reasons for building a skate park:
• To provide the area youth with a place to practice and even compete in their sport, without creating a nuisance to local businesses, or harming others.
• A well-planned skate park benefits the entire community. It takes a large number of youth off the streets and into a sport-specific facility.
• Most cities report that the skate park is the busiest park and consider it a good investment in the community.
• The skate park will also provide on-going opportunities for workshops and competitions.
• The skate park will be an additional recreation amenity to the area.
We are volunteering our time because we believe in our community’s children and youth. By providing them with a wholesome, fun and challenging facility to practice their sport we are helping to keep them off the streets and away from less desirable activities.
