Warren County Skate Park History
• October 2002: Parks and Recreation staff met with the Warren County
Board of Supervisors to discuss coordinating a skate park committee
and began to further research the possibility of developing such a facility
in Warren County

• February 2003: approximately 50 youths and parents attended a meeting
where the Warren County Skate Park committee was officially
formed

• July 2003: on a recommendation by Doug Stanley, County Administrator,
the Board of Supervisors appropriated $75,000 from the 2002-03
contingency reserves for the skate park. The County also endorsed a
dollar for dollar match for up to $75,000

• November 2003: the Warren Coalition announced their organization
was awarded a $10,000.00 grant from Tony Hawk Foundation.

• July 2007: the County of Warren was awarded a $76,000.00 grant from
the Virginia Department of Recreation and Conservation.

• December 2008: Pillar Design Group, in conjunction with Artisan Skate
Parks, was awarded the design build contract for the skate park.

• September 2009: The construction of the skate park began. The construction
was guided by a vision of a facility, which contributes to our
community’s identity and pride. A facility that was safe but challenging,
convenient in its location, secure, comfortable, and pleasing to both
the skating and non-skating community. The image is one of community
pride and accessibility by the public.

• The Warren County Parks and Recreation Department designed, constructed,
and landscaped the skate park. The construction cost was $466,000 including
$175,000 from the County of Warren and $75,760 from the Virginia Department
of Conservation and Recreation.
